So after almost 22 years I got the chance to see The Wild Swans. The previous time they were supporting The Mighty Lemon Drops in Newcastle and the crowd was impatient. Impatient to see The Mighty Lemon Drops. It was one of those infrequent events that I’d turned up to see the support. They were superb.

Fast forward to 2009 and I’m sitting in Dubai Airport heading back home to attend the second night of a very special event. The Wild Swans have reformed and are playing two nights in Static Gallery in Liverpool. 200 tickets each night will guarantee that only real fans attend (it also ensures that the band has a sympathetic and appreciative audience to try new tracks and reworked classics).

Needless to say it was amazing. With a lineup of Paul Simpson, Les Pattinson, Mike Mooney, Ricky Maymi, Henry Priestman and Steve Beswick who would expect anything short of genius. An odd MC-ing appearance from Ian McNabb, and Will Sergeant joining the band onstage towards the end of the concert, gave the evening an almost “supergroup-who’s-who” feel. But it was undeniably about The Wild Swans and their music.
